Penn National Gaming just bought a large stake in top media outlet Barstool Sports for $163M.
The purchase makes Barstool an exclusive gaming partner to Penn with sole rights to use the brand for online/retail sports betting.
For more details on what to expect from the betting site read the full Barstool Sportsbook review below.
What is Barstool Sports
Barstool Sports was founded in 2003 and has since become one of the most popular sports blogs in America. Originally a print-based publication, the brand expanded into the online sphere in 2007. A majority of the brand’s revenue is generated through deals with gambling platforms and merchandising.
The Chernin Group purchased a majority stake in the site in 2017 and moved its headquarters to New York City. In January of 2020, Penn National bought 36% of the company and will increase its stake to around 50% for another $62M.
With Penn National as a majority shareholder, a Barstool Sportsbook is expected to launch as early as Q3 of 2020. The sports betting platform will have a leg up on the competition with millions of followers from its blog and podcasts.
Penn National’s presence in 19 states is also expected to be pivotal in the sportsbook’s early success.
Barstool Sportsbook Betting Markets
Our Barstool Sportsbook review wouldn’t be complete without a look at what betting markets to expect from the site. Much like other top sportsbooks in the US, popular American sports will likely be the focus. Leagues including the NBA, NHL, MLB, NHL, NCAA and NASCAR should all be available. International sports such as soccer, tennis and rugby are also expected to be featured.
While exact bet types are unavailable at the time of this Barstool Sportsbook review, all major markets should be available. This includes money lines, point spreads, over/unders, prop bets and outrights. Check back with our Barstool Sportsbook review for more precise details as the brand begins to provide information.
Barstool Sportsbook App
Our Barstool Sportsbook review expects a Barstool Sportsbook App to be ready-to-go with the launch of the online site. The app should be available on both iOS and Android devices.
Due to gambling restrictions, online betting via app will only be able to be used within state boundaries. At the moment, Barstool operates a free-to-play app which can be downloaded in iTunes and Google Play Store.
Alternatively, users are expected to have the option of mobile betting using their browser. Just like the desktop platform, users can visit the sportsbook on their mobile browser and log in, no download required.
Barstool Sportsbook Bonus
An introductory bonus offer is expected to be available for new customers joining the Barstool Sportsbook. The Welcome Bonus will most likely come in the form of a free bet or deposit bonus.
If the Barstool Sportsbook Bonus is a free bet offer, users will receive a risk-free wager for a select amount. This type of bonus can be offered with or without a deposit. If the Barstool Sportsbook bonus is a deposit bonus, the brand will award bonus cash based on your first deposit. Typically deposit bonuses match first deposits for a 100% bonus.
More promotions are expected to be available at Barstool on top of the Welcome Bonus. Bonuses may come in the form of free bets, insurances or bonus cash. Be sure to check in the ‘Promotions’ section when the site is live for updates on any Barstool Sportsbook bonus.
Expect updates on our Barstool Sportsbook review with more precise details on the Barstool Sportsbook bonus when the site launches. If you run into problems claiming the Barstool Sportsbook Bonus be sure to contact customer support.
Barstool Online Casino
Penn National bought the rights to any casino products in its deal with Barstool Sports. This suggests the company sees the possibility of opening an online casino under the Barstool name. Like other sportsbook/casino sites in the US, expect an integrated platform with only one login and registration required.
Barstool Sportsbook Review Conclusion
This Barstool Sportsbook review expects Barstool Sport in partnership with Penn National to launch a sports betting site this year. The platform should include all major American sports and provide competitive odds with other major sportsbooks.
A Barstool Sportsbook App should be available for mobile betting within state boundaries.
