CT online casinos are coming closer to becoming part of reality. However, as of now Connecticut gambling is limited to land based casinos and the CT Lottery. In this review, we will tackle the current state of Connecticut gambling, including both existing brick-and-mortar CT Casino and the future plans for taking their games online.
CT Online Casinos: the legislative updates
The SB 17 bill, regulating most forms of online gambling, passed through its second reading in the CT state Senate at the beginning of August, or in other words it was tabled for the calendar. The next step, is a debate and a vote. As the bill was brought to the floor by a bipartisan effort, we can be optimistic about it’s passing. However, it will take a while before there are CT online casinos.
Still, there is much to enjoy when it comes to Connecticut gambling with existing land based casinos and CT Lottery. The latter one offers even a limited online options, with its mobile app.
Casinos in Connecticut
There are two casino resorts in Connecticut, both operated by Native American tribes: Mohegan Sun CT and Foxwood Resort Casino CT. They were both opened in the 1990s. However, there is talk of a third casino being opened, run jointly by the two tribes. They are joining forces to prevent a Las Vegas giant MGM from encroaching on their business. Just recently, the fight between the tribes and MGM reached a high point. At the beginning of August, MGM filed a lawsuit demanding a chance to apply for a license to build resort and casino in Bridgeport.
As for now, let’s have a look at the existing Connecticut casinos list and the betting experience they offer. The promotions mentioned are those available as of August 2019. As both casino add new offers on a regular basis, make sure to check out the casinos websites next time you are planning to gamble in Connecticut.

Mohegan Sun CT
Mohegan Sun CT is more than just a casino. It’s a resort with rich entertainment calendar, hotel, spa, shopping area, multiple dining options and much more. Between the two CT Casinos resorts, Mohegan Sun as a whole, has much fancier and wider entertainment offer, going far beyond gambling.
We have to mention the sports arena, located inside the resort. It serves many purposes, including concerts, sporting events and auctions. It used to be home for the Mohegan Wolves football team, and now serves as a home to professional women's basketball team – Connecticut Sun. Also lacrosse games, mma and major strongman events take place here.
When it comes to the casino itself, there are few features worth paying attention to. Mohegan Sun CT boasts with two areas designated for gambling: Casino of the Sky and Casino of the Earth.
Casino of the Earth has 180,000 square feet, 200 table games and a smoke-free space with 400 slots machines and a poker room. Casino of the Sky is a bit smaller, with nearly 120,000 square feet, but still impressive with size and its dome, described as “fully functional indoor planetarium”. When gambling under this impressive roof, you can enjoy smoker-free environment with Blackjack, roulette tables and hundreds of slots machines.
Finally, let’s talk about the poker room. There are 33 tables, with daily tournaments and cash games. Also, there are special high hand payouts. Every three hours, the player with the highest hand wins. On Wednesdays, Mohegan Sun CT adds a special twist: high hands win $500 every half an hour. And on Sundays it’s $200 every 30 minutes. Also, twice a week, a $7,500 tournament is scheduled.
If the bill regulating CT Online Casinos is eventually passed, we should expect the Mohegan Sun online version. Based on their current offer, we can safely assume that it will stick to the big three categories: slots, table games and poker.
Foxwoods Resort Casino CT
Out of the two existing CT Casinos, Foxwoods is a bigger one, and a bit more down-to-earth option. To specify, Foxwoods casino is among the top largest casinos in the US. The entire resort spans over 9,000,000 square foot, with six casinos. The only online option so far is a free app, with no real money gambling.
Foxwood has a wider choice of gambling options than Mohegan Sun. Let’s look at their offer.
- Slots: with nearly five thousand of them, it’s hard to describe the breadth of this offer. However, we are pretty certain you will find here any type of slots one can imagine. You have video slots with rock stars (Adam Levine for example), and Lord of the Rings or Sex in the City. There are modern and old school types, you can play with pennies or hundred-dollar-bills.
- Table Games: 22 kinds, 250 tables. Just to list a few: Blackjack, 3 level progressives, 3 card blitz, Baccarat, Casino War, Craps, Roulette and many others.
- Poker: also here, there are many different types of this game available. You can try crazy 4 poker variation, or caribbean stud poker, or three card poker. And of course there are more traditional choices, like Texas Hold’em.
- Bingo: Foxwoods claims their 3,600-seats bingo hall is one of the biggest in the world. It might be the only place in the region offering high-stakes bingo.
- Keno: live drawing take place every six minutes, so there is no way you won’t be able to get enough of numbers picking.
The interesting special feature at the Foxwoods Resort is well designed, informative museum, presenting the history of the Pequot tribe, the casino owner.
As of today, other than Connecticut Lottery is the option that comes closest to CT online casinos. That being said, CT Lottery mobile app, available both at Google Play store and Apple store, has limited functions. You can use it to learn about the winning numbers and current jackpots, find a retailer near you and scan your lottery ticket to see if you’ve won.
There is a bunch of games offered at CT Lottery, let’s look at the list:
- Lucky for Life
- Play3 and Play4
- Lucky Links
Although Connecticut casino list isn’t very long, the offer is quite attractive. Both locations are much more than just casinos. Also, it seems that the CT casinos list is about to get longer. Whether the two tribes build their joint project in East Windsor or MGM gets it their way in Bridgeport, the gambling market is about to get bigger.
Same goes for the future of CT online casinos. It’s in the making, as the SB 17 bill makes it through all the legislative stages. And it’s fair to expect that both Mohegan Sun CT and Foxwoods Resort Casino CT will be offering online gambling. Same goes for MGM, if indeed they win their lawsuit and open a resort and casino in Bridgeport.
