SB 690 was recently signed into law, and casinos and operators from all over are scrambling to take advantage of the new legal online sports betting market! Here’s everything you need to know.
Best IL Online Sports Betting Sites
At the moment, no Illinois sports betting sites are live yet. However, SB 690 has passed, and sports betting in Illinois is fully legal. This is in contrast to Illinois online casinos, which are still illegal.
Furthermore, there are a few casinos in the Prairie state that are already linked to nationwide chains with existing sports betting apps. With that in mind, we’ve got a good idea of who will be the first to release an online sportsbook and what they may offer.
However, horse racing and sports betting are treated differently. You can already bet on horses online from IL.
Now, Rivers Casino Des Plaines and SugarHouse are sister casinos, and we’ve already seen SugarHouse come out with a fantastic sportsbook in PA.
When IL sports betting apps are released, expect Rivers Casino to be one of the first. SugarHouse offers great deals on its sports betting apps, so we expect Rivers to do the same.
The Aurora and Joliet locations of the famed Hollywood Casino are both owned by Penn National, one of the most respected names in online gambling.
Online sports betting is a new thing in Illinois, but it’ll be in good hands with these Penn National properties. Check back with us for updates on promotions and bonus cash!
The Harrah’s Joliet and Harrah’s Metropolis are both backed by Caesars, a nationwide chain with famed locations in New Jersey, Nevada, and all across the country. We expect Harrah’s to be able to provide Illinois sports betting apps backed by a great rewards program and boasting plenty of promos and deals.
Possible Illinois Sports Betting Venues
According to the provisions in SB 690, land-based casinos in Illinois can start their own sports betting apps with their own skins. We expect that casinos owned by parent companies with existing sports betting apps in other states will be the first to release, so we’ve made special mention of those.

- Hollywood Aurora

”Penalty Box” for Fantasy Sites
Due to some legal issues in other states, Illinois lawmakers have decided to write in a so-called “penalty box” for operators like DraftKings and FanDuel. What this means is that only master licensees will be able to apply for a sports betting license for the first 18 months of the rollout.
Indeed, Rivers Casino is connected with Rush Street Gaming and already offers a great sportsbook app in Pennsylvania. You can take a look at the SugarHouse PA interface and promotions to get a feel for what will be available to you once Rivers Casino goes online! Check out the Rush Rewards program in addition to any promotions on the main SugarHouse PA page for a good idea of what Rivers Casino might offer in future.

This is always an indicator that an operator takes customer care seriously.
Hollywood Casino has plenty of experience with sports betting apps in other states. We’re looking forward to that informed approach to sports betting app design when IL sports betting goes online. Penn National, Hollywood’s parent company, has partnered with William Hill for its online sportsbook, one of the nation’s most well-known operators.
Taking a look at the William Hill sportsbook in NJ, we’re excited to see a similar app come out in Illinois. William Hill has more experience in the sports betting market than anyone, and it shows. Illinois Sports Betting Payment Options
When Illinois sports betting goes fully live, you’re going to want to take some of that play money you’ve been saving and fund your online sports betting account. There are plenty of options available for deposit, while withdrawal options with any online gambling account are a bit limited.
Operators need to verify quite a few details before they are able to dispense your winnings to you. This can seem a bit frustrating, but these provisions are in place to protect both the operator and you, the player.

IL Online Sports Gambling Promotions
Illinois online sports betting is going to come live very soon, so you’re going to want to start looking at casinos and sportsbooks to decide who you’ll open an account with. To choose the perfect operator for you, you’ll want to look at the promotions, bonuses, jackpots, and rewards programs to see which fit your fancy.
Also, get a feel for the interfaces and how the apps feel by looking at releases by the casinos’ parent companies in other states. We’ll detail a few types of promotions you can expect below.
No Deposit Bonus
A “no deposit” bonus means that no deposit is required to get free cash in your online sports betting account. When you sign up, you may be given a promo code for a bonus with “no deposit required”, or it might just show up in your account when you sign up! Check your favorite online sports betting operator’s website for more details, and then start playing without needing to put cash in your account!
First Deposit Bonus
When you sign up with the best online sportsbooks, many of them offer a first deposit bonus. This is also sometimes called a deposit match bonus because sports betting sites will match your deposit up to a certain dollar amount. If you’ve got a bit of starting money to play with, sites with a first deposit bonus are a great way to double your wallet!
A lot of sports betting sites will offer what is called a “risk-free” bet. What this means is that you’ll get forgiveness if you lose the wager on which you used your risk-free promotion, usually your first bet. Wager a certain amount, and if you lose, some or all of that wager will be refunded to your account!
Illinois Sports Betting Bill SB 690
The Illinois Senate recently got SB 690 passed into law. After a sordid history in the Illinois General Assembly, SB 690 was finally passed in June 2019.
With the Supreme Court’s overturning of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act in 2018, sports betting became 100% legal on a federal level. States all across the country scrambled to enact sports betting laws on a state level. The first version of Senate Bill 690 was filed in January 2019, a mere 7 months after PASPA was overturned.
This means a few things for Illinois sports betting and gambling in Illinois at large. Plus, it’s pretty good news for sports fans and gamblers alike. Let’s go over what Senate Bill 690 actually allows for. Then, when we can expect online-only sites like DraftKings to start operating in Illinois.
Illinois Gambling Laws
SB 690 greatly expands the ability of casinos to offer sports betting, table games, and slot machines. In addition, casinos will be allowed to operate in the Chicago area, and online sports betting licenses will be available for casinos to purchase.
With regards to the expansion of existing casino properties, casinos in Illinois will be allowed to expand to 2,000 gaming positions. Likewise, racetracks will be allowed to offer table games and slots. A gaming position essentially means one game, whether it is a slot machine or a table game. This new, relaxed attitude towards gambling indicates that more types of online betting will be available in Illinois’ near future.
Online sports betting is coming to Illinois as well! Existing casinos will be allowed to offer sports betting both online and in-person to Illinois residents and visitors to the state that are 21+. These “master licenses” will only be awarded to physical casinos in Illinois.
There is one negative to the new online sports betting bill. If you want to use an online-only service in Illinois, you will have to wait. Three online-only sports betting licenses will also be awarded, but sites like DraftKings and FanDuel will have to wait 18 months before they are able to apply.
Illinois Sports Betting Online – Our Final Thoughts
As you can see, there’s a lot going on in the world of Illinois sports betting online. After PASPA was removed, legal sports betting was left up to the states. As a result, states all over the country immediately saw a chance for gambling revenue.
Illinois was no different, and its residents are eagerly awaiting online sports betting to go live across the Prairie State. All the laws are in place. So, it’s now only a matter of time before we see sports betting sites in Illinois.
We’ve detailed who we think will be first on the market above. Usually, they’re going to be casinos with parent companies who are already offering sports betting apps in other states.
This doesn’t mean that the Argosy or other locally-owned casinos won’t release sports betting apps. It’s simply too early to tell. Now, what that might look like is uncertain. However, we can look to casinos with online sports betting in other states.
Still, within the coming months, Illinois residents will have access to some of the best names in sports betting! Make sure to check back with us for new sportsbooks, promo codes, and much more!
